How this OCR works

The tool downloads the open-source Tesseract engine into your browser the first time you use it, then recognises text locally. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for ID cards, invoices and medical reports. The first run takes a few seconds to fetch the language file; later runs are faster.

Getting accurate results

Use sharp, well-lit images with the text horizontal. Crop to the text area if the photo includes a lot of background. Screenshots and printed documents reach 95%+ accuracy; handwriting and low-contrast photos are much less reliable. Set the language code to match the text: eng for English, hin for Hindi, mar for Marathi, tam for Tamil, ben for Bengali, guj for Gujarati.

What to do with the text

Copy it into a document, paste it into the Word counter, or run it through the Case converter. For multi-page scans, convert the PDF to images first and OCR each page.
