How discounts are calculated

Savings = price × discount ÷ 100, and the final price is the original minus the savings. A ₹4,999 item at 30% off costs ₹3,499 and saves ₹1,500. Stacked discounts (30% then 10%) are applied one after another, not added, so they total 37%, not 40%.

Watch for GST after discount

Many quotes and restaurant bills apply GST on the discounted amount. Enter the GST rate to see the amount you will actually pay. For MRP-based retail, the printed price already includes GST.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the discount percentage from two prices?

(Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100. ₹4,999 to ₹3,499 is a 30% discount.

Are stacked discounts additive?

No. A 20% discount followed by 10% is 28% in total, not 30%.

Is GST charged on the discounted price?

Yes, if the discount is shown on the invoice, GST applies to the net amount.
