Indian numbering vs international
India groups digits as thousand, lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000) rather than million and billion. ₹12,54,500 is twelve lakh fifty-four thousand five hundred, not one million two hundred fifty-four thousand. Banks expect the Indian form on cheques and most accounting software prints it on invoices.
Writing a cheque
Write the amount in words starting at the left edge, add 'only' at the end and draw a line through any remaining space so nothing can be added. Paise, if any, are written as 'and paise fifty'. The tool gives you the exact line to copy.
